I've Got a Brand New Pair of Rollerskates
Thursday, January 1, 2009
Oh hi there.
No you're not lost, I've redecorated around here. Like everyone else, formerlyfun has gone green. No more pink, no more Barbie's Boudoir. I don't want to hear any smart comments about Kermit's Korner or something else stupid clever like that. I figured with the new year I'd usher in a new look.
Of course I'm still tweaking things and on that note I'd like to announce my very first contest. I am doing a best of tab to highlight some of my most popular posts. I certainly have my favorites but I'd like to know your favorites. I'm not at all objective and tend to like posts that make me look cool and sexy or really smart and include pictures that make me look 25 and ten pounds thinner.
Just comment here, you can pick as many posts as you like. Really, I won't hold it against you that you like, say nearly every single one. You can nominate in categories. You can comment more than once if you think of something else later. What stood out, made you laugh, made you angry, made you cry? Yes, I'm conceited, so?
Tell me what you liked and I'll give one winner a big shiny present. And yeah, I own a day spa so I won't be sending you a macrame plant holder or Santa oven mitts. I'll give one winner a customized package that can be focused on skin, body or wellness. If your one of my guy readers and you are uninterested in things of the girlie persuasion know that I stock men's skincare too or you can give me the lowdown on one of your lady friends and I will send you something for her. I know that's vague but I really want the winner to have products they'll use just trust me that I'll send you good stuff.
I'll pick an additional winner to get a day off their own blog if they so choose as I will offer a formerlyfun guest post on the topic of their choice(I know, I am very brave, I'm glad you think so too.) Of course you have to have a blog to win this one and uh, actually want a formerlyfun post on your own site.
I invite everyone* to participate, even if you're not a regular commenter here, come into the light and it could be worth your while. I'll pick winners at random by some kind of system where I write everybody's names on slips of paper and let the bebe pick one. I'll announce it here and whomever wins can email their real address and the lowdown on what kind of package they'd like and where I can mail their goodies.
So welcome to the new digs and I hope we'll be seeing lots of each other.
* If you don't have a blogger sign in, you can just select anonymous or name in the comments section. Just be sure to write Sandy in Siberia or Lola in Los Angeles at the end of your comment so I can confirm it's you if you win. Also, if you really live in Siberia, I probably can't afford the postage to send you spa stuff cause you know, the recession and stuff.
Labels: It's okay to suck up.
I like the redesign. The new picture of you is very different from the old.
P.S. I'm a dude and not interested in the contest. I just wanted to drop out of lurkerdom to say hi and comment on the new design
Best to you and your family in the new year.
Ditto on the redesign (although I was kinda partial to the pink...it 'spoke' to me)and it all seems to come up bigger in my browser (which is good for the ocularly challenged like me).
One of my fave posts included that really sick youtube thing called 'Don't You Wish Your Saviour Was Right Like mine'....and lots of insightful comments on religion. Or were they two separate posts?
Oh and Happy new Year too.
I don't know that I have a favorite, each one makes me laugh in some sort of way. I do love the photos you post - sometimes in fact, the photos make the post!
The new design is great. Pink was a little hard on my eyes but it was your signature color. It took me a few seconds to make sure I hadn't gone to the wrong place.
I love the new colors and design.
My favorite post was the one about your first Manzillian. That was a RIOT!
The manzilian was really funny and the stinky client that bounced her check. It is hard to pick because there all really different but good too.
Oh and I like your date with the alchoholic russian.
Love the redesign.
My favourite post was the one about your first manzillian. I was hooked at that point.
I like the rants, materialism, gay marriage, civil liberties.....
I cna't remember if it was two posts or one but the stuff you wrote about your aunt's reconstructive surgery and going in for c-s, I also like the converations between you and your husband. Did I win anything yet?:)
gailportland
Nice green, I usually read you in a viewer so I get to skip all the pink but maybe I'll come back and comment more without getting my eyes assaulted.
I like spa tips, would especially like some for us aging mommas. Wrinkles, crowsfeet, sagging necks oh my.
It's kinda hard to go through your archives right now since they're all clumped by year, but the first post that came to mind was the one where you posted about the girl who bought that super expensive purse and the whole shitstorm that caused in your comments!
The hairy lady that bounced her check was an entertaining story.
I love the post about fathers and daughters, I could relate and it really touched me.
First of all, completely dig the greenness. I'm thinking my blog needs to be painted over, too, because I'm a follower. And I was also considering having readers pick their favorite posts, because seriously? Love it when people talk about me.
That being said, because this is about you (damn) I always love conversations with your husband. And the one with the memory neuralyzer reference. Which contains a conversation with the husband.
Ive never missed a day in checkin to your blog- you have made me laugh and made me tear up( okay I dont cry often but tear up is true!) No Good, Stinky, Hair Pants Lady--anyway is one of my favs...hope things are going ok...
Definately the one exhalting nerds, cuz I'm a nerd and my husbands a nerd, and our kids probably going to be a nerd to, but like cool, hipster nerd.
Nina
I love the new look and I loved the Manzilian post... Still makes me chuckle!!!
The green looks lovely.
As to my favorite post, as pepsi-through-the-nose funny as I find you, I'm going to have to go with "You Are the Weight of Her World." So, so good, and something I'm thinking about all the time.
I adored the one where you gave DPH the wax job. That one cracked me up!
BTW, love the new digs!
Lordy lordy...how to choose.
I love the manzilian and I have read the lady who didn't pay you a bunch of times.
But I'm going with Caveat Emptor, the blind date. The site of that fanny pack is too too much!
The very first post of yours I ever read was "It's heavy, ain't it". Despite all the fun ones (yes, the Manzilian one is awesome), that one remains my personal favorite.
Love the new look. :-)
I really loved the "First Look" blog because of the photo. Made me very jealous not to have gotten a similar one myself. It is just so lovely.
Although I don't do the blog thing, your website is one that I read regularly..but I guess I am a bit of a lurker because I rarely comment.
Dan-
Thanks for coming out of the shadows Dan, you don't comment often but I'm glad to know you're here. The picture is very different you say, good? bad? hmm.
Arizaphale-
I like the pink but afreeman made all kinds of fun of me:) Oh, don't you wish your savior was right like mine, that was funny cause it's true. Thanks.
jean-
thanks, I spend quite a bit of time on the pics, glad someone notices.
woody-
I am partial to green and the manzilain post was one of those that after it was all out and I reread it, I laughed all over again which told me it really was funny, plus it's cool to get to be a fly on the wall with stuff like ball waxing.
Remy-
Thanks, like I used to say(before I married my hubs who doesn't like me to date) the worse the date, the better the story.
Megan-
I'm told manwaxing as blog post is nearly addictive as heroin, glad you're hooked.
Martin-
The dudes always seem to like my rants, thanks.
Gail-
Not yet Gail but keep your fingers crossed.
Vanessa-
I've got an upcoming spa tips post for my ahem, mature ladies. Stay tuned.
Michelle-
Should you want to peruse the archives, hit the arrow and they drop down. And thanks b/c of your comment, I asked my hubs about that and I didn't even know the archive thingies did that, hmm. The Birken purse post, yeah, I wasn't execting the commentary on that one, actually freaked me out a little but it was kind of exciting, in a sick to my stomach way.
Great new look. I stumbled upon your blog and have been checking daily for new posts. Glad to see you are back and with a whole new look!!!
I feel the best blog (although I enjoy all of them) and the one that made me a follower/stalker was the one about dad's and how they influence daughters and their relationships with men. I made my husband read it - we have 2 daughters and I think sometimes dads forget or do not realize how important their role is with daughters. Your blog about it is so insightful and I get all choked up whenever I read it!! Thanks!!
1. Looks great - I'm glad that you're not so pink anymore. That hurt my eyes.
2. Not sure about the commenting interface - very confusing.
3. My favorites:
- Glory, Whory Days was fun
- The pornstar client one was brilliant
-How Much Is Enough - very strong
-Gay Soapbox - I really like your political posts.
hey i like your prize of a guest post on anything on someone's blog, that is brave but very cool. Me, I liked your post on fathers. And I like your posts on body image and pressures on women. And waxing the hairy cha-cha made me laugh. And I love your beauty tips. Man you write great posts. Jealous!
I'm loving the sweet new digs!
I love all the posts where you talk about your husband and the bebe. There are lots of them, but I love that you are an independent, fun, hilarious woman... and you adore your husband, even when you are making fun of him.
If I win, I'd love to have something that has to do with keeping skin healthy during pregnancy, you know, that stuff. I'm 10 weeks!
I liked the one about the HAIRY lady who gave you the bad check...and I also really liked the more recent one about the dad/daughter realtionship and how daughters are lucky to have dads (or something like that).
Oh, and the Manzillian was hillarious too!
