They May Take Our Lives but They'll Never Take Our Freedom

Thursday my mother and grandmother came to stay with us in sunny California. My mom went home on Sunday leaving my grandmother and my aunt will come in this Thursday and take Grandma home with her. It's been a good visit, they babysat while hubs and I went to a wedding on Saturday which is the first time in a long time we didn't have to pay for a sitter and the kids had a blast milking the grandmas for every last piece of candy and minutes up past their bedtime.

Hubs was a groomsman and wore full on Scottish regalia. There is a lot that goes into the kilt outfit he wore, for the first time in our marriage, he took longer to get ready than I did. He had wool knee highs(hubba hubba) with little ribbon clips(girlie) and then a dagger sticking out of the socks(to offset the girlie factor). He had crazy laces on his shoes, a furry pouch that sat right about crouch area looking like a giant muff. He referred to it as his hairy sack all night. It was quite the get up although I got to fulfill my longstanding Braveheart fantasies. When he came out, our son looked at him quizzically, our bebe tried to hide under his skirt and our four year old asked him if he was going to battle.

It's like prom for grownups.

Is the rumor true? They wear nothing under those kilts??

Yeah, was the underside of the skirt safe for infants?

But regardless, you two are freaking adorable.

You look hawt. But you knew that, didn't you?

Ah, Braveheart. I'm so sad Mel Gibson turned out to be an anti-semitic turbo-douche. Because he grilled my cheese in that movie.

Yes, he did wear something under that kilt. He bought himself new knickers, grey boxer briefs just in case he forgot to "sit like a lady".

I feel the same, too bad. Grilled my cheese? I'm going to have to remember that.

Great photo. I'm going to have my Scots friend check for authenticity.

Ach, laddie - that is one huge sporran! And you know what they say...

Nice get up, so he even had a Sgian Dubh (that's the small knife). Well done. So he had everything, the flares, the gillies, the sporran, the dress jacket, did he check the correct length by kneeling on the floor? Man I remember lots of family occasions when I was wee the men getting ready with all their regalia. I don't find it feminine at all, I think it's well sexy. I love the proper outfit. If its a wedding you gotta wear nothing underneath... just to flash the bridesmaids! Was it a proper scottish wedding? Did you have a scramble? What about a ceilidh? Man, now i miss Scotland way much. Alba, tha gaol agam ort.

The similarities continue . . .

My family, both sides of it, are Republicans as well. When I was with my mom, grandparents and uncle a few days ago, they kept referring to people who voted for Obama, as "The Kool-Aid Drinkers."

I skimmed a book on New Yorker cartoons, rather than get into it with them. Not even worth it.
